Each summer, the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago’s Camp Blackhawk gives its young participants an experience they won’t soon forget. For one week, these kids, ages 6-17, get to come together and enjoy all the fun activities and friendships that come with a trip to camp, while leaving behind various challenges epilepsy can bring to their daily lives. They are all surrounded-some for the first time-by dozens of other kids who know exactly what having epilepsy means. They don’t have to worry about what people would think if they had a seizure or if they will be excluded from activities just because they are different. At Camp Blackhawk, epilepsy is the norm.
Zach Pfingston, an avid Camp Blackhawk enthusiast, looked forward to attending Camp each summer. In 2009, he passed away from SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy), however his spirit and love of Camp Blackhawk lives on in the experiences of its participants. Jack and Manjula Pfingston, Zach's parents, are helping the Epilepsy Foundation continue to provide this opportunity to kids and teens living with epilepsy by hosting their annual A Day for Zach and Camp Blackhawk: The Zachary Pfingston Memorial Golf Outing. All proceeds benefit Camp Blackhawk.
This year the event will be taking place on Monday, June 17th at the Seven Bridges Golf Club in Woodridge, IL. With an 8:00 am tee-off, this event includes 18 holes of scramble format golf, followed by lunch with an exciting live auction and raffle. Tickets are $125 per golfer/$45 for the luncheon only. Lunch begins at 1:00 pm.
